Thundercats Fun-Facts

These are just some interesting things that I have noticed while watching the Thundercats. This page contains fun-facts about the Thundercats, a few of my opinions on miscellaneous stuff, and some thought provoking questions/statements.

Isn't it convenient that everyone in the entire universe speaks English?
Everyone in the Thundercats universe is nearly indestructable.
More or less every episode ends with a moral, a bad joke, or both.
Snarf's real name is Osbert.
There are lots of other Snarfs living on the planet of Snarfs and New Thundera.
WileyKat and WileyKit are brother and sister.
Jaga and Clawdis are the only ones in the series (aside from Lion-O) to wield the Sword of Omens.
Pumyra was taught nursing skills on Thundera (before it exploded), and therefore she may have had a nurse/medic/paramedic type job on Thundera.
Bengali was a blacksmith on Thundera.
Snarfer went to Snarf College.
Lynxo was a professional tap dancer... Juuuust kidding. ;-)
Hachiman's first appearnce was not in The Thunder-Cutter. It was in Lion-O's Annointment Trials, Part 5. At the very end, when Lion-O's ceremony is taking place, an uneven panning shot of the crowd shows Hachiman, right next to the ninja! Gasp! So LAT, Part 5 was really their first episode. You can see them in the image below, in the upper right, to the left of the Brutement. Among the other "guests" are Snarf and Snarfer (lower left), a warrior maiden that I think is Nada (upper left), Quickpick and Mandora (upper left), four warrior maidens (upper middle) and I think the one on the right of that group is suppose to be Willa. A unicorn is in front of Hachiman. Brutemen in the upper right. Just to the lower left of them is a group of Trolliks. Molemen in the lower right. Above them is Snowmeow. To the left of the Molemen is Mule, from Safari Joe. To his left is the Tabot (and above the tabot is his donkey). Below the warrior maidens is a group of Wallows from The Tower of Traps. Below them is a Bulkan. And below him is the bat from Snarf Takes Up The Challenge. Dr. Dometone is below Mandora, and the Unicorn Keepers are to his left. Incidentally, this episode is also the first appearance of the bat, Dr. Dometone, and Mule, who are not seen again until later episodes. Apparently, this must have been some kind of inside joke with the production staff.

Several people and things in the Thundercats universe are named with a pun. Well, that might not be the best way to word this little fun-fact, but that is what it amounts to. Most of the puns are pretty obvious, but some are not. These are the ones I have spotted. (This list is nowhere near complete)

People Puns

Liono - Named after a lion.
Panthro - Named after a panther.
Tygra - Named after a tiger.
Chetara - Named after a chetah.
Bengali - Named after a bengal tiger.
Pumyra - Named after a puma.
Lynxo - Named after a lynx.
Jaga - Named after a jaguar.
Jagara - Also named after a jaguar.
Wiley-Kat - Wile (n): A stratagem or trick intended to deceive or ensnare. The pun for Wiley-Kat comes from this noun. Wiley-Kat has wile, cunning, etc. He's also a Thundercat, which I believe is where "Kat" comes from.
Wiley-Kit - See Wiley-Kat. I think the "Kit" comes from the fact that "Kat" had already been used. Also, I think it's because Kit and Kat go together (like candy) ;-)
Mumm-Ra - Named after a mummy.
PummRa - Named after a puma.
Tuskas - They have tusks, live in water, and look kind of like walruses.
Spidera - She's a giant spider.
Soundora - She guards the sound stones.
Jackalman - Named after a jackal.
Monkian - Named after a monkey.
Vultureman - Named after a vulture.
Rataro - Named after a rat.
Ratilla - Also named after a rat.
Slithe - Well, I know there's a pun in this name someplace, but I don't know quite how to word it. Maybe it comes from slither.
Snowman - Is a man who lives on snowy Hook Mountain.
Snowmeow - Is a cat that lives with Snowman.
Robear Berbils - "Robear" comes from something like "Robot Bears". I don't know where "Berbils" comes from, other than the fact that in Berbils they say "berbil" many times.
Mumm-Rana - Also named after a mummy.
Lunatacs - "Luna", from "lunar", perhaps because they are from the moons of Plundar. Also perhaps, "atacs", like "attacks", because they like to do that.
Luna - from "lunar".
Amuck - aptly named. According to the American Heritage Dictionary (AHD), "In a frenzy to do violence or kill" or "in or into a jumbled or confused state". Both definitions match him quite well.
Chilla - has powers over cold (and heat, but mostly cold). Kind of CHILLy, if you ask me. ;-)
Red Eye - Has red eyes, and eye related powers.
Alluro - Has an alluring power, kind of like chocolate cakes.
Tug Mug - A mug is a drinking cup, which he kind of resembles. Or, according to AHD, "A thug; a hoodlum" or (chiefly british) "A victim or dupe". Or, if you're referring to his face, you could say he has an ugly mug. As far as Tug is concerned, perhaps it refers to what certain boats with the same title can do, that is, the ability they have to move very heavy objects, which this villain can do, being from a moon of immense gravity. And yes, I know I made this explanation a little complicated sounding, but I'm in that kind of a mood. ;-)

Places Puns

Cats Lair - Lair: den or dwelling of a wild animal. In this case, cats. Hence the name.
Hook Mountain - Is a mountain that is shaped like a hook.
Tower of Omens - It is a Tower that is constructed to give early warnings as to what Sky Tomb is doing, which is where the Omens comes in.
Valley of Chains - Well, it's a valley, and in that valley there are living chains that pop up and grab people. Hence the name.
Bridge of Light - It's a bridge that's made out of light.

Thundercats, being a cartoon for kids, does not have any actual cussing or swearing in it. However, the people writing the episodes do a pretty good job of making up oaths, curses, swears, and other stuff for everyone to use (although some people use some of the stuff below more than others). Here are some I have noticed (in no particular order).
